Inventory Insights

What's sitting, what's selling, and what has no cost on it.

Owners app

Shopmonkey's Parts page shows total quantity, total cost and total value. Inventory Insights adds a fourth number, the parts that haven't sold in a year, and a view that shows which parts are earning their shelf space.

The Inventory Insights page in its Complete state, 2,388 of 2,388 invoiced orders cached: totals of 2,410 parts and 3,120 on hand, $58,941 total cost against $118,604 total value, a line chart of measured daily inventory value with no days missing, a note that 36 line items could not be matched to a catalog part, then rankings for most sold, longest sitting, 1,104 parts on hand with no sale in 365 days, most profit, least profit, parts margin and parts profit month to date, and zero-cost parts.
Every invoiced order read once, then seven rankings and the inventory value over time in one line. Westbrook Auto Works is a demonstration shop; the figures are invented.

What it does

On Shopmonkey's Parts page, a fourth card appears beside Total Quantity, Total Cost and Total Value: the count of parts on hand that haven't sold in the last year. In the left sub-navigation, an Insights row sits under Categories. Both open the full view in place.

The view ranks your inventory seven ways: most sold, longest sitting, most profit, least profit, margin month to date, profit month to date, and zero cost, meaning parts on hand with no cost recorded. Part names are readable, and a part with several numbers shows the first with a count of the rest.

A chart tracks inventory value over time from a daily snapshot that starts the day you install. Until it has a week of days recorded, it shows the one value and how many days it has so far, and says it's still building.

The rankings are built from your sold-parts history, which our server walks over time. While that walk is in progress the page says it's collecting, with real progress numbers, instead of showing empty lists. Line items that couldn't be matched to a part are counted and shown. A number it doesn't know yet shows as a dash.

Why it matters to a shop

Dead stock is cash sitting on a shelf. A part with no cost on it makes every gross-profit number on every report a little wrong. Both are easy to fix once you see them, and Shopmonkey's Parts page doesn't show you either one.

The count sits on the Parts page itself, next to the totals you already look at, so you see it on the way to doing something else. You don't have to remember to run a report.
